Benjamin Netanyahu: From High School Student to Prime Minister
Early Life and Career
Benjamin Netanyahu, also known as Bibi, was born on October 21, 1949, in Tel Aviv, Israel. He grew up in the United States and attended high school in Philadelphia before returning to Israel to serve in the military. After completing his military service, Netanyahu studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University.
Political Career
Netanyahu entered politics in the 1980s and served in various cabinet positions under Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir. In 1996, he was elected Prime Minister for the first time, becoming the youngest person to hold the office. He served two terms, from 1996 to 1999 and from 2009 to 2021.
Netanyahu returned to power in 2022, after winning the November 1 election. He is known for his strong stance on security and his support for Jewish settlements in the West Bank. Netanyahu has also been involved in peace negotiations with the Palestinians, but these efforts have not led to a lasting agreement.
Netanyahu's political career has been marked by controversy, including allegations of corruption and his handling of the 2014 Gaza War. Despite these criticisms, he remains a popular figure among many Israelis and is considered a key player in Middle East politics.
