Origins and History

Wayang Kulit is an ancient form of puppetry originating in Indonesia. It is believed to have developed in the 15th century on the island of Java. Wayang Kulit is not just a form of entertainment; it holds significant cultural importance in Indonesia. In recognition of its cultural significance, UNESCO inscribed Wayang Kulit on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008.
