Oakland Athletics Win Another

The Athletics' starting pitcher, Paul Blackburn, finished with five innings and gave up only two runs while striking out six. Blackburn, however, gave up four hits in the second inning which led to the two runs. He was able to settle in after that and didn't give up another run the rest of the game. Dany Jimenez pitched the ninth and gave up one hit and struck out two batters to earn the save.

The Athletics scored in five separate innings with one run in the first inning, two in the third inning and then single runs in the fourth, fifth, and eighth innings. Seth Brown homered in the first inning and singled in the third. He ended the day going 2-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Shea Langeliers hit a single and a double and scored a run in the third inning.

Cubs' Woes Continue

The Cubs lost their fourth straight game and fell to 41-59 on the season. The Cubs scored their three runs in the second inning off a Patrick Wisdom two-run single and a Seiya Suzuki RBI single.

The Athletics are now 42-59 on the season which is one game ahead of the Cubs in the NL West standings. The Athletics will face the Cubs again in the series on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field.
