Bayern Munich humiliate Barcelona 8-2 to reach Champions League semi-finals
Bavarian giants put eight past hapless Blaugrana in stunning display
Bayern Munich have embarrassed Barcelona with an astonishing 8-2 victory in the Champions League quarter-finals, booking their place in the last four of the competition in ruthless fashion. The German giants totally outclassed their Spanish rivals in Lisbon on Friday night, with Thomas Müller, Philippe Coutinho, Ivan Perišić and Kingsley Coman all getting on the scoresheet.
Bayern's attacking brilliance overwhelms Barcelona
Bayern's attacking brilliance was simply too much for Barcelona to handle, with the Bavarians creating chance after chance at will. Müller opened the scoring after just four minutes, before David Alaba doubled their lead with a stunning free-kick. Barcelona pulled one back through Luis Suárez, but Bayern restored their two-goal advantage through Ivan Perišić. Coutinho then made it 4-1 with a delightful chip, before Suárez reduced the deficit once again.
However, Bayern were not to be denied and they put the game to bed with three goals in the space of 10 minutes. Coman made it 5-2 before Müller grabbed his second of the night. Robert Lewandowski then added an eighth for Bayern, who will now face the winners of Manchester City vs. Lyon in the semi-finals.
